Sea buckthorn (LAT. Hippophae rhamnoides) is, undoubtedly, one of the superfoods of Europe and Asia. The plant grows in the form of a small shrub, producing small, orange, perfumed berries, which are pressed into a delicious and nutritious juice. In Armenia, sea buckthorn is highly appreciated and it is part of the culinary traditions of the country. The berries are generally harvested in the wild and used in a variety of ways: in juices, compotes, teas, jams and jellies. Harvesting the berries is a laborious process as everything is hand picked. The bush has vicious spines and the pickers have to be extremely careful not to hurt themselves and not to damage the fragile berries.
